Arnold-T-800 from Terminator (1984)

I started this months ago at the start of lockdowns. I saw the fan game, Tech-Com 2029 was looking for a modeler to do an Arnold Schwarzenegger from the first Terminator film, as he appeared there. I found out they already had someone working on a version, but I decided to continue mine as a personal portfolio piece. I wound up having to shelve him for a month here, weeks there, for various reasons. I finally have him finished and rendered. I placed him into poses similar to shots from the first movie. I tried to get the lighting and the focal lengths of the cameras as close as I could, but they are not set up 100% to the shots in the movie. The closeup shot, in particular, is hard to read as to just what camera lens they were using. I did try shaping the face to match 100% in that shot, but doing so makes him look completely off in other shots, so I'm happy with his likeness as it is. Plus, I have to say Arnold's face is trickier than I first imagined. He changes a lot, especially in the lips, movie to movie. He always looks off in the recreations for the later Terminator films, now I know why. The hair in Maya was also definitely giving me issues. I wish Xgen did not crash Maya so readily and generally wasn't so temperamental. I am finally happy with the result here. I could always push further, but there comes a time when you have to move on.

Rendered in Arnold, composited in Photoshop. Shots of the sculpt are out of ZBrush, where he was sculpted and polypainted before further texturing in Substance Painter. 3 UDIMs with 8k maps.
